Apple tv no longer goes to home so no pic. The pwr light does come on and blinks when home button is depressed. Unplugged several times, changed TV's. Nothing. An older model, doesn't have a serial # on it. How do I get this to work or is it done?

Please identify your Apple TV model. Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support. Is it a 4" black box? Is it 0.9" high or 1.4" high? All Apple hardware has a model number somewhere on the outside. (Apple TV boxes would also list the serial number on the bottom.)
If the status light is glowing continuously, then the device started up properly. Then the issue may be in the connection to the screen.
Apple Remote (aluminum) or Apple Remote (white) doesn’t have a Home button. The Siri Remote has a Home button, but that is compatible with the current models only.
My bad. The serial number was indeed at the bottom, had to use my good eye and a looker (20X) to see it. It is 2nd gen. Replaced the HDMI cable and I get "not connected to the internet, go to settings...". It won't function to go to settings. Power light is on and it does show the screen saver if left alone.
