Apple TV lost remote

Hi, I lost my Apple TV remote. I’m trying to use the Apple TV option my phone but it doesn’t seem possible to setup without a remote.

I can turn the physical Apple TV on/off by unplugging and plugging it back into the power supply BUT when I go to use the remote on my phone it asks me to use my iPhone to enter a four digit passcode onto the AppleTV and I have no idea how that’s even possible. Nothing on my iPhone let’s me control anything on the AppleTV. I can’t get to setting > general > remotes on your AppleTV using my phone.

Is Apple trying to make you buy another remote?
