Man you are talking about ancient software. The app you see in your Utility folder is THIRTEEN years old and was released in 2007. Just how old is your SuperDrive? If it was purchased after 2007 it already has that firmware update and there’s no need for that app. It’s so old it won’t run on Catalina, of course.

And like I said, a whole lot of us have SuperDrives that are working just fine with Catalina.

That being said the last SuperDrive firmware update was released in December 2009 (eleven years ago). Here’s the link. See if it runs. The installer will tell you if you need it or not.

Not necessary.

Bypass any hub or docking station and plug directly into your Mac, use Apple branded adapter/cable if necessary.

Many hubs do not supply enough power for the DVD drive.

The reply by leroydouglas is correct -- you need to plug directly into a USB port on your Mac and not into a hub.

I'm not chiming in to reiterate that comment, but only to note that I have this same USB drive and, years ago, I placed a note on the drive itself reminding me to use a Mac USB port and not my hub because I always forgot that. I'm just suggesting you do the same.

(Thanks for the advice of plugging directly into the mac.) When I go to the Utilities folder under applications, I find the "SuperDrive Update.app" with a white circle and with the diagonal white stripe, on top of the image. When double clicked a pop-up says “SuperDrive Update.app” needs to be updated. The developer of the app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. I am using Catalina v 10.15.6.

An inserted DVD spins briefly and then ejects. Nothing at all opens on my screen. Have tried various discs, All the same response. I would like to get it working and not just be considered a whale.
