Is the watchband on the Apple Watch 6 interchangeable with non-Apple bands?

I have a few NON-Apple Watch bands in my collection and the old saying of you get what you pay for applies to watch bands, some work fine, some not as well.
38mm and 40mm watch faces use the same band
42mm and 44mm use the same band
