Run First Aid:
Check the status of your internal hard drive. See if it needs to be replaced. To check, run First Aid In Recovery Mode.
Boot into Recovery Mode:
See what happens.

How big a restoration is it? It will take a while due to the complex ecosystem of permissions and hard links. You've already invested 24 hours so I'd let it go another 8 or so to see if there's any movement.
Are you restoring because you had problems with the previous installation, or are you simply moving from one computer to another?
If you had problems with your earlier setup, then that could also be related to the issues you are seeing with the restore.
In any case, I suggest that you re-erase the drive, then reinstall the OS and use Migration Assistant to restore only user files, no applications and no settings. Then use the new system for a short while to confirm that everything is behaving regularly. Then you will need to re-install your applications.
No movement after an additional 12 hours. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks
Are you restoring the entire hard drive? What process did you go thru before staring the restoration from TM, i.e. did you erase and reinstall the system? Or…?
I am restoring the whole drive.
I erased the HD and then reinstalled the OS.
Force shut down (hold down the power button until it shuts down) and then reboot.
It boots up to Migration Assistant. Should I try again or just plow ahead?
I'd give it one more shot.
So, 20 hours in and I'm stuck at the same place. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Thanks for your advise.
That worked great.
