Final Cut Pro and Big Sur with Memory Cards??

Go to System Security>Privacy and give FCP X Full Disc Access.

I have the same issue. Clean Big Sur install on a new partition, fresh install of FCP. Won't see any SD card without restarting FCP every time I want it to recognise a new card.

The card shows up in Finder.

Sony x70 camera.

And yes, I have given FCP full permissions in the privacy settings, although it hasn't resolved the issue and really we shouldn't have to do this step anyway, the SD card is right there on the Finder, any app should see it. FCP issue for sure.

A clue might be the fact the cards are also not showing up in the finder sidebar, which I assume the Importing window gets it's info from. But I can see there SD card on the desktop, and by navigating to My iMac in Finder.

I have tried both the built in SD card reader, and an external reader, with identical results.

Did you set Full Disk Access in Privacy System Preferences for FCP and Image Capture?

Post an EtreCheck report after giving the application Full Disk Access in the Privacy System Preferences. Copy the report and use the Additional text button to add it to the reply.

Same problem here, since updating FCP and to OS Big Sur ,Final Cut Pro won't recognise my SD Card, it did before with Catalina. I have to uncheck Full Disk Access and allow it to gain access again for it to recognise my card! But it soon stops working. Its so odd! I deleted the preferences so many times but it doesn't fix the issue. Definitely something wrong with FCP and Disk Access. As I think its also causing issues for users being unable to skim through videos as the image just freezes or displays a black screen when viewing ones footage.

Are these cards not seen even by the Finder, or by Image Capture?

Try importing to a folder with Image Capture and then to FCP from there.

Me too. I have this problem and doing the things above doesn’t help. I still need to exit and reopen finalcut pro just to import videos from sd cards. I’m using Sony cameras fyi.

The Privacy setting is required of all applications that access hard drives internal or external. Except for system installed applications of course.

Yes I am having the same issue! My Sony Alpha 7 files will not work at all on my iMac now that I have the update. I can't watch the clips, I can't upload them to anything, they won't work at all. They had an update about a week ago but that didn't do anything either. My Canon files work just fine but my Sony camera will not work at all. I'm worried that I need to wipe my system and install an older version of iOS.

They won't show on Finder from the SD slot. I have to use a SD card reader from the USB. Won't even show in Image Capture from there even though it's plugged into the USB. It shows on my desktop which is the only way to find it. The files show up but if you click on any it freezes the whole computer and won't work. I can't drag the files out to upload to any third party site like Dropbox, Youtube, etc. I should have never done an update on this.

This worked for me the first time, but on another day, I went to import into FCP X and am not able to locate the memory card anymore. Full Disk Access is still checked. Still haven't been able to import directly to FCP X.

I'm not sure if this would help because I can't open the files at all even on the finder page. I see them in both FCPX and on my Desktop when using the adapter but the files will not work. If I try to open them they lock up everything.
