Why do I have to pay to listen to my own music?

How do I get around not having to pay for iTunes Match so I can listen to my own music? I have hundreds of CDs that I bought over the years and am loading them into my MacBook Pro.

Hi,

You don’t have to subscribe to iTunes Match or Apple Music to play your music that is on your computer. You can sync your music to other devices.
