My new mac 16 tels me that I do not have enough space on my disk to download mas os big sur what can I do

If you are not able to clear sufficient space to install Big Sur, you should consider installing an external drive to your computer. Then you can transfer files to it to clear space on your hard drive. It's a good place to store photos, for example. Today, these drives are very reasonable priced and easy to install with a USB cable. Many are very compact and no longer require external power. You might have to reformat it to use it, though.
