An eighth generation Apple iPad (a.k.a. iPad8) is compatible with the first generation Apple Pencil.
The first generation Pencil both pairs and primarily charges via the Lightning port of the iPad. The Pencil may also be optionally charged using an in-line adapter and the iPad Power Adapter.
