Hi - I am migrating via a time machine backup which is connected to the new air and the assistant has been "starting up" for several hours now. Is it working ? Source data is from a pro running catalina v 10.15.7 onto new air running big sur out of the box and updated...
Any way of knowing? There is enough space, but hard to tell if anything happening as migration effectively locks down the target device.
Are you using Wi-Fi? If so, that is your problem. Yes, I know that Apple's instructions suggest using Wi-Fi, but it's just too much data and it will usually get corrupted in the transfer and either not complete or you will inherit problems. Use a USB cable and all should go well.

Hmmm... so I cancelled the migration and turned wifi off, went back into migration and it "carried on" clearly showing it had done a 1/3rd of a transfer. Seems the wifi was masking the progress somehow...
Nope - seagate ssd connected directly to the new air...
