iPhone 12 mini zoomed view

Has anyone noticed that when switching from “standard” to “zoomed” view, that many, but not all, apps are squared off and do not meet the full screen size and resolution as they did in standard view?

I just got the mini and had it in zoomed mode and was looking for an answer. Didn't realize it was only happening in zoom mode until I saw this post and turned it off. It is very strange. and annoying. I guess I will keep zoomed mode off for now. I thought the app wasn't working right on the mini for some odd reason.
