Cannot login to imessage on Mac

Hello,

I got a new phone and my imessage was working fine until today my apple ID was signed out so I signed in no problem and am unable to sign into iMessage.

When prompted to sign in I put the correct Apple ID and password and no reaction, no message or anything. So I changed the password. Prompted again I login to with new password and imessage prompts: The user name or password was incorrect. Try again. Now both old nor new password work. When I put the old password "an error occurred during authentication appears in red.

Please advise.

Thank you,

In your title, you said you couldn't sign into your Mac. Your post covers signing into your phone. Which one are you having problems with?

IOS

Messages - If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime.

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Messages Troubleshooting.

Some other things you can try. Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.

Try a restart.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device.

If necessary

Hard reset.

Do a backup and try a factory reset. Then restore from your backup.

Restore to Factory setting.

Backup - Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.

OS

Messages – Can’t log in.

Messages – Can’t log in 2.

Messages - If you can‘t sign in to your iMessage account or FaceTime on your Mac.
