iMac takes a long time to connect to internet on waking

Following an upgrade to Big Sur, my iMac takes up to 10 minutes to connect to the internet when I wake it in the morning. It has both a Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection. The iMac is new, purchased in May 2020. Any advice?

Hello Stanley Taylor1,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about issues connecting to the internet after waking your Mac.

Try creating a new network location and testing. Go to System Preferences > Network > Location top center > Edit Locations. Create a new location using the + symbol. This article should help: Use network locations on Mac - Apple Support

If the new location is working, use the bottom portion of the article to prevent the other network that isn't working properly from being used.

If the issue occurs again, before the connection starts working again, run Wireless Diagnostics to check and attempt to resolve the issue: Use Wireless Diagnostics on your Mac - Apple Support

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
