Mac Mini (M1) 2020, LG UHD monitor flickers on dark colours.

I'm pretty sure it can be patched using software. The problem comes up when certain colours are displayed. I can't see the pattern to it, so it is probably something in the driver specifics of encoding the image before it is sent to the various output devices. I'd really like a fix for the resolution dropping when a screen saver is used - that bugs me even more than the flicker and line problem - dropping from 4k to 720p and forcing me to reboot to get the resolution back up to 4k. Should have bought the iMac and dongle spaghetti to make it useful.

Not sure how to check that, but I connected same monitor with same cable to windows PC and it works OK on 4K and any lower resolution. Cable is about 1,5m long and in windows it shows HDCP ok status, so it should probably be ok?

Only thing I have changed is that I had to enable MHL on monitor as without it I only got 30Hz. But as said, same cable, same monitor, same settings works perfectly on windows PC.

A good information would be to tell us which frequency you set, because on 30Hz, I get headaches and is a big NO from me. I paid for 60Hz monitor and mac and I shall use it at least on 50Hz if possible.

I just received an LG 32UN500 and same thing: flickering when some sudden color changes (i.e. on fullscreen YouTube videos when there is text on screen). I changed to RGB and seems better but it is still there.

I can still ask for a refund for the monitor, but it is good for its price. Is there any updates on this issue? Any working fix?

I just bought my macmini few days ago and im encountering the same vertical line flickering issue.

The only thing i can find to solve is to lower the resolution but its to annoying for me due to image are not

properly proportion. So far im only using the HDMI port.

I have the exact some problem. Flickering and sometimes vertical lines on the dark colours. M1 Mac Mini and an Asus 4k monitor connected via HDMI.

I have exactly the same issue. and same, id rather have my black levels set to low. did you register a complaint to apple? might be good if as many of us can!

Hardware issue for sure. Nothing to do with which interface you use USB C or HDMI , we await apples reply. So far they have just ignored.

What size screen are you running? In order to get it looking 'retina' on my 27" I have to set it to 'looks like 2560 x 1440' in the display settings. This produces 5k output instead of 4k.

dude, I ordered mine to have the Main Logic Board replaced and nothing is fixed as well. It seems, out of the box, the hardware is either wrongly configured, or inherently defective.

Don't waste your money. I did the USB-C>HDMI cable swap and it's the same.

I hope you'll get answers from them, we're quite a big number to have the same issue.

I have a call scheduled for later today. I’ll let you know what apple support says. In any case, LG says it’s up to apple. And if you google OP post about it, you’ll find he returned the monitor and went for Benq :)

I’ve not tried this, I was on a virtual chat with an apple rep who asked me to do a number of things, non that worked. The last thing she asked me to do was install the latest firmware for the monitor.... I’m not sure how you do this, any ideas?

And I have a new M1 Mac mini directly connected to an LG 32UN880-B 4K Ultrafine Ergo display with a new Belkin 4K HDMI 2.1 cable (future proofing) and the display is sharp, without any display aberrations. I might add that this display is professionally color calibrated at the factory by LG.

My new extended Apple Magic Keyboard never disconnects or misbehaves with my new M1 mini. The five-year old Magic Mouse 2 frequently disconnects at random intervals, and there is nothing nearby to initiate this issue. It has received heavy usage, and it may be that the device itself is beginning to fail.
