New Mac mini using an old iMac for a display

I just bought a new Mac mini--can I run the new mini using my old (2009) iMac for the display? or do I need a new display? (I have a 2009 iMac 27"). Thanks everyone!

Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

The "Mac from 2019 or earlier" part is for Thunderbolt connections, and does not apply to the 2009 iMac that uses Mini DisplayPort. You will need a USB-C to. Mini DisplayPort cable, such as:

mophie USB-C Cable with Mini DisplayPort Connector - Apple (CA)
