Sim Card: From an iPhone6 to iPhoneX
I have upgraded to the 12 from the X. I want to give my X to my son who is using a 6. Will his SIM card work in the X?

Yes. See this list. It hasn't been updated but the iPhone 12 can be added as you've discovered. I've done the exact same thing - upgraded from the X to the 12.
Be aware that some carriers lock the phone to their own SIM cards. Is your son's SIM from the same carrier as your SIM or is the phone not locked?
