Connecting a MacBook Pro to an iMac using Thunderbolt

Hello. I'm getting ready for a semester of teaching and would like to use two monitors - one to see my students in gallery view on Zoom and the other to share my slides. I connect the two computers together, but it seems that I am supposed to get a tab for arrangement in System Preferences, which I don't get. Advice on how to connect these two computers together?

Thanks,
