Free Apple TV+ Subscription

I already have a subscription to Apple TV+. Do I cancel it to use the free year that came with my new iPad? Or will the subscription just be extended?

The intended year offer may only be shown to new subscribers normally.

Users can’t get additional year offers for additional devices.
