How much space does Big Sur Need...REALLY?

System Preferences tells me the Big Sur OS Update requires 11.1-12.2 GB. I have a 128GB HD with about 27GB free. After downloading the update, I receive another message I now need another 30GB free. So, it sounds like the requirement is really more like 45GB? Is that correct? Is there any way around this? ALSO, OTHER is taking up 37GB. Can you tell me how I clear out as much of OTHER as I can? I don't mind removing stuff I need to later add back in after the update.
