Volume on Call

Since yesterday, when I’m on the phone, I have a hard time hearing the other person speak and am required to put the phone on speaker. How can I fix this?

iPhone 6s, iOS 10

You can only increase the volume of a call while you are in the call. Check Settings>Sounds and make sure that you have Change with Buttons turned on to be able to change volume with the side buttons.
