Migration to new 2020 iMac says not enough free space but coming from 2012 iMac

How can this be right? Migration to new 2020 iMac says not enough free space when coming from 2012 iMac . Do I need to transfer the Applications from old to new iMac or is that a duplication?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

If your 2012 Mac has more data than the capacity on your new iMac then Migration Assistant will not work. You need to have at least the same amount of total space as your old Mac on the new one for a migration to work.
