It’s not showing up on the desktop or in the finder of my brand new 2020 MacBook Pro. I’ve restarted computer and am using a working USB-C to USB adapter.
Afraid to slip in a cd as there’s no way to eject it on the drive itself.

It's not supposed to show up there when there isn't a disk in it; instead, choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu and check if the Disk Utility sees it.
