The phone number listed for my apple id, doesnt belong to me

My husband is switching back from his android to apple back and when he tried to log in to his apple account the number listed is not ours.

Does he need a verification code? See if anything here helps. If necessary, you can use account recovery as explained in the link at bottom of the article.

Verification code - how to get one and sign in with two-factor authentication.

Once he is able to log in, he can remove/replace the number on his ID.
