i got to the screen that has a plug in look with computer on the screen; it says support.apple.com/iphone/restore

Means something went bad with the operating system on the device. Need to get a computer, download and install the iTunes program ( https://www.apple.com/itunes/ ), then plug the phone in with its cable and follow onscreen instructions. If you have a Macintosh computer with Catalina or BigSur, you can plug in directly, iTunes is no longer needed.
