Final Cut Pro 10.3.4 on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 is Unexpectedly Quitting

Final Cut Pro 10.3.4 on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 is Unexpectedly Quitting when I try to make a Master File

My setup has ran fine for a few years. I know it's older.

I recently had an assignment with 42, 16GB SD Cards (all full). I put all of that (nearly 4TB) on an external hard drive and transcoded them into FCP. When I go to create a Master File the program quits.

As a test, I've even tried to render old projects that were rendering fine before but now also crash the program.

I have reset the application preferences with no fix.

Also, I have tried to create a simple project with just a single image screen capture. When I go to create a Master File that also makes the program quit. So size doesn't seem to be the issue.

I have crash logs if that would help. They exceed this posts capability.

Any ideas?

I appreciate your help.

Thank You,

Dwayne

This is most likely the cause.

You need to replace the new mobiledevices.framework with the old one.

1. Restart your Mac in Recovery mode (Command + R) and run Terminal

2. Type "csrutil disable" without the quotation marks and enter.

3. Reboot your Mac

4. Go to where the framework is the system Library. The framework is here

5. Delete the framework folder.

6. "here i share my framework with you guys drive.google.com/file/d/1yZ46zcOC7b43ISi...82V/view?usp=sharing" From the fcp.co thread. Someone has shared the old framework, or if you have a Time Machine backup you can get the old framework from there

7. Move the old framework back in the place it was.

8. Try FCPX.

9. If works reboot in Recovery mode, run Terminal and type "csrutil enable" without quotations and Enter

10. Reboot again.

The tilde was just part of an example and not the actual search.

The path you gave me doesn't have the apple folder within the Library. That is my problem trying to access the framework. Here is the folder that opens up when I copy/paste your path. There is no Apple folder. Why?

My machine is rendering via Quicktime (a work around I was trying). I'll try your fix in an hour or so.

In the meanwhile, what has happened and what do you think has caused my problem? It just seems to have popped up. I don't know of anything I've done outside the norm except this monster project with tons of files and disk space. I haven't added any program add ons.

Seems like I did update my OS iTunes. My work station is a mastery of old and new OS and apps. I'm still in Adobe CS5 and trying to get that to run in Sierra was a trick. . It still has a few problems but it works. I'm afraid to do the current update it suggests. I don't know if it will break anything. Also, Not sure if I can update to High Sierra or Mojabe (could break my workstation) I do photography, graphic design, printing and video. Blending old with new is really tough.

Thank you so much.

Hopefully, your fix will work.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi Tom,

Are you still available? I've got my machine in recover mode and have done the disabling through the terminal.

I'm at the point where I'm looking at finding the framework folder and the path you provided and what I have aren't the same. I do not have an Apple folder inside my Library folder.

Can you please advise. I'll sit tight and be ready for your help. Thank You.

Not ~/Library, you want /Library in this case.

Just press Command-Shift-G in the Finder and type

/Library

and press enter.

(FWIW, it would just the same thing if you actually wanted to go to ~/Library, or any other folder: just type the relevant path. The tilde is a useful shorthand for the path of your home folder)

Could you provide the correct path to the framework folder? Tom had previously given me a path to swap out the framework file but I'm missing one of the folders.

Here is his path

Mac HD > Library > Apple> System >Library >PrivateFrameworks >MobileDevice.framework

Once inside the Library folder, I don't have an Apple folder. Could you help?

Are you sure you followed the instructions correctly?

Before, you talked about ~/Library - that is the WRONG Library.

You can get to the location Tom mentioned directly from the Finder.

Command-Shift-G, and PASTE (to make sure nothing gets wrong) the following line, exactly (there is NO tilde!)

/Library/Apple/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks

I'm on a Mac running Sierra 10.12.6

Tom thinks when I updated my OS last the framework file got corrupted and I'm trying to use an older version that he provided to fix the problem.

The problem is Final Cut is unexpectedly quitting when I try to make a Share > Master File for rendering a project.

Can you see the entire thread I've had with Tom. He was quick to respond at first but now he's not replied in a while. My machine is currently in recovery mode and I can't get work done. Not sure the fix but if you can see the previous posts with Tom everything will make sense

Thank you.

Just and FYI, I also spoke with a Sr. level engineer at Apple this afternoon and he suggested to not work on that file. Instead, we tried several fixes that didn't work and then finally I reinstalled Final Cut Pro and in doing so it also upgraded to FCP 10.4 and it is currently working. YEAH! I also updated my OS with a couple small security upgrades I've always been afraid to do. I can't get too new or I'll break my Adobe Creative Suite CS5.

Thank you again for your help. I had definitely found myself in a rabbit hole.
