Typing one character on my USB keyboard are typing erroneous characters

My USB keyboard started showing 48 I type 4 or ; when I type d or fk when I type f. How do I fix this?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.12

They keyboard may have died, however before giving up on it, please reset the SMC 2-4 times with all wired peripherals disconnected and then test. You need to do this multiple times as resetting the SMC does not always work the first time.


Instructions for doing an SMC reset are in SMC Reset


You can also try restarting in Safe Mode too, instructions for that are in Use Safe Mode to isolate issues with your Mac
