I never use it and I don't want it to be there. I am frequently finding myself looking at it because a simple gesture travelled a little too far and it is frustrating. I find nothing useful about it that cannot be done other ways and since it is intruding on me I want it gone.

System Preferences> Mission Control, select/ deselect the options you want/ don't want.
Set any keyboard shortcuts to -
Click on Hot Corners and set them so nothing happens when your cursor goes into corners.
Mission Control is pretty good, maybe learn to use it to your advantage.

My corners were already set to - but you did still point me in the right direction.
My issue was solved by setting Mission Control to -.
