OSX Mail flagged emails mailbox - suppress trashed/deleted emails

Hi

In OSX Mail, is there a way to set the flagged email mailbox such that it does not show trashed/deleted messages?

Thanks

Hi akfromnyc,

Thanks for reaching out through Apple Support Communities for help with your Flagged messages in Mail. We're glad to help!

There is an option to adjust this so that messages in Trash do not show in the Flagged mailbox. It's important to note that this option also prevents messages in the Trash mailbox from showing up in search results.

To configure this feature, head into the Preferences in Mail, and in the first General section, make sure there isn't a check mark in the box for Trash under the section titled, "When searching all mailboxes, include results from:"

If you'd like to retain the feature to include messages in Trash when you search in all mailboxes, we can also recommend creating a new Smart Mailbox that shows Flagged messages that aren't in the Trash.

To do this, create a new Smart Mailbox using the instructions in the guide below:

Use Smart Mailboxes in Mail on Mac

You'll want to set the option to "Contains messages that include all of the following conditions." Next, for the first condition, choose "Message is flagged" from the drop-down list of options.

Click the plus symbol for a second condition, and then choose "Message is not in Mailbox," then select "Trash" from the drop-down list that appears. Name the new Smart Mailbox as you'd like, then click OK to save, and let us know if it helps.

We're here for you if you've got any questions.

Have a great day!
