One that can connect the ports on the old Mac to the common ports on the new Mac. For a span from pre-2010 to current, that would have to be USB-2

You could connect together a Thunderbolt-3 to ThunderBolt-2 adapter and a ThunderBolt-2 to FireWire, but that is expensive and likely not worth owning in the long run for a one-off use.

Another approach might be to acquire an Ethernet adapter for the newer Mac, and make an Ethernet connection through your Router. Gigabit Ethernet provides "near hard drive" speeds.

If you are needing to Transfer from your old MacBook to your New MacBook M1 you do not need a cable. Migration Assistant works very well for this.
