Would going from MacBook Pro 2016 to M1 MacBook Air considered an upgrade?

Hey all,

I have maxed out (except storage) - MacBook Pro 2016.

i7, 16gb RAM, 4gb GPU

And I'd like to instead get the new M1 MacBook Air, 8gb RAM.

Would this be considered as upgrade in performance?

Software I use regularly:

  • Logic Pro X
  • Final Cut Pro X
  • Affinity Designer \ Photo \ Publisher

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.1

Absolutely!

You'll definitely notice much better performance going from an i7 to Apple M1 - especially with Logic Pro X and Final Cut Pro X. You can certainly expect gains in Affinity Designer \ Photo \ Publisher as well.

Thanks to Apple Silicon, battery life would also be significantly improved!
