My Apple wireless keyboard became disconnected from my iMac, and the computer restarted, so now I cannot access System Preferences to reconnect the two. How else can I connect them? Thank you.

Does your wireless keyboard have rechargeable batteries via a USB cable? If so then connect it via the USB cable and it will act as a wired keyboard.
