how do I down load apps on my Mac

If the app is in the Mac app store you need to be signed into it with your Apple ID. If the app needs to be downloaded from the internet you need to make sure your privacy settings allow you to download apps from outside the App Store (System preferences--> security and privacy--> the general tab--> make sure the allow apps from App Store and identified developers is selected.
