Are you using Mouse or Trackpad. What you see is very likely the cursor.
You’re correct. I have the Smart Keyboard and love it but never really use the mouse pad. Thanks so much!
That button could also be the Accessibility button that appears when the Accesibility features are activated.
That button looks more like the Accessibility features button.
