You used to be able to press command and a number key to quickly jump to that desktop in spaces. Is that still available?

It still exists... at least up to 3 Spaces.
By default, it is CONTROL, not Command.
Go to System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts and click "Mission Control".
Make sure that the shortcuts are there and checked:

Addendum: it works for more spaces. It just so happened that when I made the screenshot I did not have many Spaces.
