I'm getting an error trying to play purchased movies on the TV app on my 2016 MacBook Pro (15-inch).

The error message states,

"The selected movie won’t play on your display. This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)."

Device: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)

Processor: 2.9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

16 GB RAM

Built-in Retina Display (2880x1800)

I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Boot in safe mode
  • Restart device
  • Re-authorize device in the TV app

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

Verify your display settings.

Is the built-in screen using default resolution?

Is the built-in screen using default display profile?

Any external monitor attached?

Have you tried without any attached USB-C/Thunderbolt peripherals (to help find the culprit, if any of them)?

If you have any screen capturing software active, then disable that.
