upgrade from OS 10.9.5 to latest compatible OS MacBook Pro late 2011

I have a MacBook Pro which is still running on OS Mavericks and I would like to update the OS - how do I do this?

Thanks for the suggestion, however when I clicked the link to download High Sierra I was taken to Itunes and got a message saying that the product isn't available in the US store. I don't know why I connected to the US Store as I bought my Mac in Europe not the US.

I have an iMAC running OS Sierra 10.12.6; would it somehow be possible to copy the OS from the iMAC to the MacBook?
