Cannot delete pictures

Why can I not delete pictures from macbook air big sur 11.2.1 using photos 6.0? Photos were taken with an iPhone and were deleted off of it. I have tried Command Delete, using the delete button and dragging to the Trash can. Nothing is working.

Thank you for the quick response! I found numerous folders on my computer with pictures. One appeared to a copy of another. Anyway, I checked all of them using Get Info to see if they varied in size. They were all different sizes so I put any that were close in size in the Trash can to see if any of my Library disappeared. After looking through the pictures and determining that nothing was missing I permanently deleted the other files. The ability to delete pictures began to work after that, both delete and command delete. So far no more problems.
