How do I use mobile data to download software update in the absence of WiFi ?

you can't use mobile data, you need WiFi or a computer connected to the internet

You don't sorry, since wifi connection is mandatory.

"Borrow a wifi network" from your friends, or ask for help at an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider.
