How can I use 2 iMacs as dual monitors,

My Late 2012 21.5 inch iMac is running macOS Catalina and I want to connect it to my Late 2012 27 inch iMac which is also running macOS Catalina, I have bought thunderbolt cables, Minidisplay port cables but they are not connecting to each other, I have tried detect monitors, holding down the cmd+f2 but nothing works, are my Macs not able to use this feature?

Hi JACook12,

Sorry, but your configuration for Target Display Mode will not work. The target Mac (2012) must be running macOS High Sierra or earlier.

You should return the cables.

Cheers,

Jack
