Factory reset for an iPhone 6 that does not have service

I found an old iPhone 6 at my Dad's that I would like to turn in at Best Buy (it's worth $30). The phone hasn't been used in years and does not have service. I have tried to do a factory reset but nothing seems to happen. I even tried to erase all contents and settings, but nothing happened. How do you reset an old phone? Thanks!

You can try to reset it via a computer:
