my wife wants to exhume a 4S. Since she last used it, she had to change the ID of her Apple account. The 4S however has still the old user name registered. With this she cannot connect to her iCloud account.
She does no longer have the proof of having bought the phone, too long ago. How can she change her user-name on the 4S to the new ID?

Can she sign out of the old user name? Does she know the password for that account?
If she forgot the Apple ID password, enter the Apple (iCloud) ID, and click Forgot Password. See if she can get an email option if necessary.

the email was professional and she no longer has access to it
Without proof of purchase, Apple won't unlock the phone for her.
