my new MacBook pro M1 chip battery life is very disappointing, it doesn't last for 20hr as it was advertised and it runs out of battery faster than expected. it lasts around 17 hr and mostly less.
how long should it last when browsing
and while watching videos?
I am unsatisfied
also it gets hot with the normal level use ! ( even though I never use it while charging)

It also depends on your settings (screen brightness, etc), so no one can say exactly how long a charge should last. I don't have an M1, but would consider 17 hours as excellent. Those advertised times are tested under ideal conditions, so you cannot rely on them.
As for the overheating, I can't help since I do not have an M1, but I have seen several threads here about it. You may want to do a search for that here.
