Hi Does an orange indicator come on every time you make a call?

Yes it does. Any app that uses the microphone will trigger the orange light to turn on.

An orange indicator  means the microphone

is being used by an app on your iPhone.

This indicator appears as an orange square if the Differentiate Without Color setting is on. 

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. 

It will come on when the microphone is in use, as will be the case when you make a call. Whatever apps you’ve removed you can’t remove the phone app. Every time you do something that involves speaking into the phone, the mic will be used and that’s all that the orange light signifies. No-one has added any recording device.
