Reinstalling El Capitan on imac

when re installing El Capitan on my old iMac, I get the following message:


OSX could not be installed on your computer


No packages were eligible for install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.


I tried again and got the same result

any suggestions??

iMac, OS X 10.11

This may indicate you are using an old installer application version or a corrupt installer. Delete the Install macOS application from your Applications folder and then download the one you need from this link--> different versions of macOS - https://support.apple.com/HT211683
