My sister (not tech savvy at all), her husband just passed away. He had the 2013 Mac Air set up with his ID, hadn't upgraded his laptop from OS X Mavericks. I can't get into his ID because it asks to verify with a text code, and she cancelled his phone. How do I help her change to her ID so she can access the App Store? Thanks. /Michael.

The phone was probably the only way you could have done that.
Any music or Apps purchased, will probably have to be repurchased under a new account.
You can try App Store support.
Note, you need an Mac OS X 10.12.4 to get multi-factor authentication.

Thanks for the response. I've been trying to upgrade from OSX Mavericks, but I can't get into the App Store without his password. Ugh. A mess, indeed. I don't think she cares about losing purchases, etc. I just want to rid the laptop of his profile and make her the primary. I thought about having her call Rogers and get the phone reactivated if only for a day, to get his password and delete his ID. Anyway, a nightmare. /M.
Thanks, I managed to get his ID and verification because he had his own iPad, my sister hadn't thought to tell me. So the text messages to verify him went to the iPad. Managed to remove him from the App Store, get her in. Also managed to remove him as 'owner' on the 2013 Air. Certainly traumatic for my sister, like wiping someone off the planet, basically. Scary thought. We'll all be wiped away eventually.
I'm stuck on not being able to upgrade from OS X on that 2013 Air. Way behind in the OS, like 5-6 versions. I have Catalina on my 2105 Air. When I go to software updates on that 2013 Air, nothing's offered. Why? /M.
