MacBook Pro M1 apps (Safari, Slack, Trello, Apple Mail, Adobe CC) keep quitting unexpectedly all the time

I purchased a MacBook Pro with M1 chip (MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)) a couple weeks ago. I did a clean install. I mostly use Safari, Slack, Trello, Apple Mail and Adobe CC apps. They keep crashing all the time - mostly when I am writing something. Slack crashes as I write messages, Apple Mail crashes when I write e-mails. Safari crashed THREE TIMES as I was writing this text. When it works, it works great, but then all of a sudden those apps just crash as I write any text.

Each time, I also get the "___ quit unexpectedly" screen, and it has a huge amount of text in the report.

Is there any solution for this? Thanks.

MacBook Pro 13″, 11.2

I have been having this same exact issue and it's causing me to restart every time it happens. When one of the apps 'quit unexpectedly', it seems to have a knock-on effect on other apps (eg Safari, Firefox, Chrome -I've been trying a few different browsers independently to try to pinpoint the problem) and makes other apps crash as well.

I don't think it's a memory/storage issue as I literally don't have anything else installed; and the problem was there within the first week or so.

Hi carl-m,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Big Sur was a major upgrade.

Sometimes non-Apple software can cause issues.

Unnecessary anti-virus software is a major offender.

Seems that Chrome has been found to cause issues, too.

Wondering if you have updated all necessary non-Apple apps to versions that are compatible with Big Sur.

(To get rid of any unnecessary apps, it is best to use the uninstaller from the app's developers.)

Cheers :)
