My brand new M1 Mac Mini takes a full minute to boot. The same amount of time it takes my mid-2010 iMac to boot! Is there any solution to this issue? I’ve seen videos of M1’s booting in 17 seconds. Is mine a dud?

OK, I read your etrecheck report and did not see anything that jumps out at me to be the cause. I recommend two tasks to perform one at a time.

Here's the report. I'm not really sure how to interpret it though. I'm thinking maybe using migration assistant was a bad idea. Says there's stuff in the background and apps crashing (I haven't experienced this, so I'm guessing it is stuff in background).
Thanks for posting the link to the video. Yes, I noticed that your Mac Mini is getting hung up on initial startup. It is not getting hung up on loading software (macOS) however it appears to get hung up on initializing hardware. I couldn't see in your video, but, do you have anything external connected to your Mac Mini other than the Display, Keyboard and Mouse? Any HUBs and/or adapters? If you do then try disconnecting external peripherals and see whether that improves the boot up time.

One thing to note, the more external drives (especially if they are HDDs)
you have connected to your system, the longer it will take to boot.
Also, if there are interference issues with Bluetooth devices paired
with the Mini, that can also lead to longer boot times.
Nope. Just the wireless apple mouse and a wired keyboard. Thunderbolt to iMac for display. The other stuff is all hooked up to the iMac. I sometimes connect them together via ethernet (like when I did the migration assistant), but the mini isn't yet incorporated into my other gear (external drives, audio interface, etc). Glad to have the legendary Axel Foley on my side, even though I'm not in Beverly Hills.

This is a license authentication app that checks your device
for license validity and then "phones home" over the internet
to verify those credentials. It could be taking a while before
it makes its connection which may slow things up.
Appears longer than expected. Can you run the free Etrecheck app and post the results.
Have you tried to reset PRAM and then set the Startup Disk?
No external drives. Only the apple mouse and a wired keyboard.

I see nothing that would cause your issue but perhaps another viewer can see something I missed.
I restored everything and deleted all my data. After that the startup speed is as expected. Now to bring all my apps over.
Are you restoring from a Time Machine backup?

No, I wiped it clean and didn’t migrate any data. Just going to manually bring things over one app at a time and test it out.
As you already know, if you have the patience then this is the best way to go.
