how do you increase the default image resolution in preview

The default image resolution in Preview is 72 dpi. How do you increase default image resolution, so that it remains that number every time you save an image?

There is no "default" resolution in Preview. Preview reads the resolution of the image file. You have to choose the desired resolution from Tools > Adjust Size for each image.
