Upgrading one of 2 macs to Big Sur

I have a late 2013 iMac that cannot run Big Sur. I also have a 2015 MacBook Pro that can.

Currently they are both running Catalina.

Is it advisable to upgrade the Macbook only or is it best to have them both running the same system? Is there any potential sync or other issues with running two different versions of OS X?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no disadvantage to update the Macbook to Big Sur and leaving your iMac at Catalina unless certain legacy apps have an issue.

I run many different OS at home and work: High Sierra, Catalina, Big Sur and they all are on the same Apple ID so they do play nice...
