Deleted User Account continues to show on Start Login Screen

As the admin for this Mac I created a new user account to test an issue with the Maps app. I used the + in the Users & Groups system settings.

I then selected Administrator for the New Account (in retrospect, I should perhaps have used Standard).

After testing the issue, I logged out and l logged back in as the admin (with the orange flower!). I deleted this newly created account and it was successfully deleted in the Systems Setting > Users & Groups.

However, when I restart the computer (not when I log out) the user I deleted (testing Maps) still appears on the Restart/Start screen

How can I resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Verify you are logged out of the account in question before you delete that test account.

You need at least one Admin account.

Try a SafeBoot to clear system cache files, reboot as normal https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I booted my Mac into Safe Mode.

I was asked to log in twice. The second time I logged in, the test account ("testing Maps") was not there any more, which was great.

However, when I restarted normally, the test account was still there on my login screen.

Now, I cannot remember whether I logged out of the test account before I deleted it using my Admin user account.

1) I looked in the Users directory Macintosh HD > Users and I noted that the user "testing Maps" is not there: all its files were obviously deleted

2) Is there a way of checking anywhere else in the System?

3) If the answer is No to 2), could I perhaps recreate the user account with a different password (I cannot remember the password I originally used if any) and then log out and then delete it?
